comment:
this is what is mentioned in the catechism of the catholic church (1994 # 1831) and not the ones mentioned by st. paul below. this is also what is contained in the traditional hymn to the holy spirit: veni creator ("come creator") -- "... you in your SEVENFOLD GIFTS are known ...."

re: 9 gifts of the holy spirit
fr: 1 cor 12:8-10

1. wisdom

3. faith
4. healing
5. miracles
6. prophecy
7. discernment
8. tongues
9. interpretation

comment:
these nine gifts are the ones taught and practiced in catholic charismatic communities. so, in this case, i guess they are not just dispositions (as defined by the catechism) to become docile to the holy spirit's promptings, but manifestations of the holy spirit's power as in #4 to #9 above.

i also noticed that WISDOM is mentioned first in both the old and new testament citations.
